Underarm Sweating

Underarm sweating can be a problem for many – it can be disabling and embarrassing. Underarm sweating is triggered by stress, anxiety and warmth. It can limit self confidence by making sufferers self conscious and anxious. The dark wet underarm patches are a constant reminder meaning many clothes changes or anxiety about the sweat smelling. This is made worse if you have a job that means you are in close contact with other people such as hairdressing or presenting a lecture at a conference.

At Springwell Clinic we offer a treatment that can help with underarm sweating or its medical term, hyperhidrosis. Botulinum Toxin is a treatment given by minute injections into the affected area. Local anaesthetic cream is applied first and we ask that the area is shaved. After the treatment, the armpits look slightly bumpy but this is for a short time only.

Botulinum Toxin is licensed in the UK for treating localised hyperhidrosis of the armpit. Botulinum Toxin treatments for hyperhidrosis are usually considered when the usual antiperspirants and medications have been unsuccessful.

At Springwell Clinic, our nurses are all trained and have many years of experience treating people for underarm sweating. When small doses of Botulinum Toxin are injected into the skin, they block the nerves that supply the endocrine glands; this prevents the glands from producing sweat. Because excessive underarm sweating affects people’s lives in every way especially over the summer months, treatment for it gives the greatest degree of satisfaction of all the treatments we have on offer. An average treatment of Botulinum Toxin results last from 5-7 months.
